Common sense

I've wondered why it is that common sense seems to be a gift from God that isnt recognized very much in preaching and teaching, and in my opinion it is one that is needed more today than ever. Here are just a few ideas that might help us get back to using good old common sense.

Remember
1.) God is for you. Romans 8
2.) Life at times hurts. John 16
3.) Grace is sufficent. 2 Corinthians 12
4.) The Bible works. Psalms 119:90

Beautiful mind.

Mark 4: 1-20

Every time that I read the words of Jesus I stand in amazement. The simplicity of his words still seem to bring such a deep impactfull message. It is so good to know that we serve a God that can speak to us, can relate to us, and even desire us, it is just awesome. Dont be affraid to just stand in awe of him and who he is. It truly is a beautful thing.

Assurance

There are to many christians that are walking around today not very confident or sure of themselves. If you call yourself a follower of christ and claim to be a disciple of him, then you should be the most sure person on earth. There are areas of our lives that we question from time to time, but when it comes to the most important thing to be assured of, then we know without a doubt that we are promised a future that reigns supreme with Christ. That is something to be assured of.

Honor

Dont forget to honor those that are in authority over you. The Bible reminds us to honor our fathers and mothers but we also need to remember a few others.

1.) Spiritual leaders- Thank your pastors for what they do and honor their authority in your life. (John 5:23)
2.) Public servants (law enforcement, military, fireman, EMT...)- Thank them for their service and honor them for their sacrafices. (Romans 13:1-7)
3.) Bosses- When we honor those in authority over us we are showing our ability to honor the Lord for who he is and what he does. (1 Timothy 6:1)

Heart condition

2 Corinthians 7:1-2 verse 2 "Make room for us in your heart."

In this portion of scripture Paul is doing two things, he is reminding the people of Corinth of the importance of purity and holiness and he is also encouraging them to stay the course they are on. The thing that really stands out to me is verse 2 in which Paul ask the people to "make room in their hearts." This automatically raises a few questions to me and maybe we can inspect our own lives with these questions.
(1.) What is in my heart that maybe doesnt belong?
(2.) Is there room in my heart for a greater work of God?
(3.) Do I have only a head knowledge of God or is there a heart knowledge as well?

Three D's for a great new year

There seems to be a buzz about this new year and I for one am excited to see whats in store. I also realize that I have a part to play and that there are some things that I can do to help make it a good one for myself. Here are four things that can help.

(1.) Determined- 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
A. Recognize what it is that you are racing after.
B. You will only gain what you train for.
C. With good training habbits comes good rewards.

(2.) Diligent- Try this out, "Quitters never win and winners never quit."
A. Dilligence is not a hurried up process
B. Dilligence is the oppositt of laziness.
C. Dilligence is not for the faint at heart.

(3.) Destined- Psalms 139:16
Watch your thoughts for they become words
Watch your words for they become actions
Watch your actions for they become habits
Watch your habits for they become character
Watch your character for it becomes your destiny

Why not now?

John 13:37

There are times when you cannot understand why you cannot do what you want to do. When God brings the blank space, see that you do not feel it in, but wait. The blank space may come to teach you what sanctification means, or it might come after sanctification to teach you what service means. Never run before Gods guidance. If there is the slightest doubt, then he is not guiding. Whenever there is doubt-don't. Chambers
